Doa’s Monologue #19#

1日便

Hi everyone, Doa here. 👋😁

In this episode, I’ll be talking about an amazing creature — half alien, half fish — that we saw today: the Moray Eel!

Yes! They are not related to snakes. They are fish. 🐍🐠

Most fish use suction to swallow their prey. They expand their mouths to create negative pressure, which pulls water and prey inside, allowing them to swallow easily.

But moray eels? They’re different. They don’t have that ability. Instead, they lie in wait, hidden in caves and crevices, until their prey swims by. Then—bam!—they burst out and grab their prey with their first set of jaws. 🪸🪨

But the story doesn’t end there… 👀

Moray eels have a second set of jaws, known as pharyngeal jaws. These jaws move forward to grip their prey, then pull it backward into the throat to swallow it whole. Creepy? Maybe. Fascinating? Absolutely! 🌊✨

They typically feed on fish, shrimp, squid, crabs, and octopus. The one we saw today was clearly on the hunt — you could tell from the way its body moved, relentlessly back and forth, and that distinctive motion of the neck. 🍤🐙🦑🦀

Aren’t they amazing? 🤩💙

Thank you for reading! See you in another monologue! 🤗
